Not even sure if this counts as side country - it was a NYC public park. After at least a 10-inch snowfall (in the park the gusts build up huge snowdrifts, so at some points it was easily 18" - what was on my car looked about 6 or 8 inches) I decided to get my daily workout on the hill in front of my house. At 7:30 a.m., during my dog walking hour, I used the time to cut through a few slopes, and graced nine untouched hills with my trails. Two near the flagpole, four on the northwestern side of the park, one in the center, and two in the more western region.
In the evening, well after the powder was much harder packed down and luckily a little faster, I did eight trails, all of them on the far western edge, since it had the steepest slope. My day came to an end when my dog - who until then had been frolicking alongside as I slid down and hiked up, or would be held as I went down - decided to dart in front of me. We both ended up in a pile, and she looked too shaken for me to go on. I wish it hadn't taken that for me to realize why dogs and snowboards seldom mix.
